Mystery Lovers—Don’t Miss Deadly Ink 2019!

 

Readers and writers of suspense fiction won’t want to miss the 18th Deadly Ink Mystery Conference, taking place Aug. 2-4 at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel, 199 Smith Rd, Parsippany.

2019 Guest of Honor is Wendy Corsi Staub, New York Times and USA Today bestseller and award-winning author of more than 90 novels. Her psychological suspense books have won top awards from Romance Writers of America and Romantic Times magazine; she also holds a Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA-NYC. Her newest title, “Little Girl Lost,” launches herfifth suspense trilogy for HarperCollins.

This year’s Toastmaster will be R. G. Belsky, a New York-based journalist who writes crime fiction inspired by true events. His newest mystery, Below the Fold,” is the second in a mystery series featuring Clare Carlson, news director for a New York City TV station. 

Fan Guest of Honor will be Nikki Bonnani, long-time mystery fan and supporter of Deadly Ink.

          The conference kicks off on Friday with the Deadly Ink Academy, where new writers can learn the skills they need to get their work published. In the morning Charles Salzberg, winner of the 2018 Beverly Hills Book Award for Best Crime Novel and founding member of the New York Writers Workshop, will discuss “How to Write a Crime Novel.” In the afternoonJane Cleland, author of the Josie Prescott Antiques Mysteries, as well as of many books and articles on the craft of writing, will teach “Mastering Plot Twists.”         

Panels and other presentations on Saturday and Sunday will deal with subjects of interest to both readers and writers, such as writing characters and settings, building suspense, mixing genres, getting published, and sub-genres such as cozy, historical and noir mysteries.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, those attending can vote by secret ballot on the conference’s David Award for Best Mystery of 2018. The award will be presented at the Saturday night gala dinner, when Wendy Corsi Staub also will speak.
